The aim is to improve the appearance of the labia minora (inner lips) or labia majora (outer lips).
Labia size reduction
Apart from the aesthetic or psychological reasons, there are, of course, functional reasons as well that include:
- dyspareunia (i.e., difficulty with intercourse) due to the large size of the labia majora)
- discomfort when wearing slim fit trousers
- discomfort in certain sports
It can be performed with local anaesthesia or sedation.
After outlining the surgical plan, the excess skin of the inner and outer lips is excised with special techniques in order to avoid scars or any reduction to the region’s sensitivity.
It is necessary to abstain from:
daily activities for 3-5 days.
the gym for 2-4 weeks.
sexual intercourse for 4-6 weeks.

With hyaluronic acid or autologous fat injections, we will correct the labia majora due to:
- their relaxation after childbirths
- substantial weight loss
- their relaxation and atrophy due to menopause
- the inequality of their appearance
- the relative hypertrophy of the labia minora in order to balance the appearance
It can also give good results in correcting ugly and often painful perineal scars.
Hyaluronic acid or the fat give good results in tightening the vagina when they are injected into the lateral walls.
Hyaluronic acid
Hyaluronic acid is a basic constituent of skin and mucosa. It functions like a sponge that holds water. Therefore, the skin is soft, full and hydrated.
However, with the passage of time it decreases and results in:
- Atrophy of the vaginal mucosa. The atrophy causes dryness, itchiness, chronic pain of the vulva, dyspareunia (difficulty with intercourse), and an increased probability of vaginitis and urinary tract infections.
- Atrophy of the labia majora
The treatment of all these symptoms with injectable hyaluronic acid is simple, safe and extremely effective and requires a very short period of convalescence.
The anaesthesia we use is a local anaesthetic cream half an hour before injecting the hyaluronic acid. The whole procedure is completely painless.
The hyaluronic acid remains for five to six months.
We use a form of hyaluronic acid that came out in 2014 that is more effective in women with severe symptoms of atrophy such as painful perineal scars and atrophic lichen planus, such as those that occur after radiotherapy.
In this form, the hyaluronic acid is combined with an antioxidant, mannitol.
It usually lasts for more than six months and if the problem being treated is not serious, it can last for one or two years.
We can usually get the fat by micro liposuction from:
- the abdomen
- the outer surface of the thighs (fat rolls)
- the inside of the thighs
- the buttocks
If a combination of pubic liposuction and correction of the labia majora is required, we will obviously use this fat.
The transfer of the fat to the area that we have planned will be under aseptic conditions.
Especially in women in menopause, apart from the aesthetic improvement, the restoration of the volume of the anterior and posterior commisures of the labia majora will help reduce the sense of dryness and therefore assist in improving sexual intercourse.
Advantages

- The fat is a natural material and since it is autologous its injection bears no risks of being rejected.

- The overlying skin and the mucosa improve and this is very important especially to women in menopause due to the atrophy.
- By implanting the fat with a fine needle, the procedure is easy.
It is necessary to abstain from daily activities for three to five days, from the gym and smoking for two to four weeks and from sexual intercourse and cycling for four to six weeks.
The improvement or treatment of lichen sclerosus of the vulva, probably because of the rejuvenating ability of the fatty tissue stem cells, restores quality of life and sexual functioning to affected women.
