          The first trimester screening includes the nuchal scan and PAPP-A.<\/strong><\/p>\n

          It is very significant because:<\/span><\/p>\n

          • We affirm the date of the pregnancy accurately and the expected date of delivery
            \nparticularly in women with an irregular menstrual cycle.<\/li>\n
          • We diagnose major fetal abnormalities e.g anencephaly.<\/li>\n
          • We diagnose early miscarriage.<\/li>\n
          • We will find the fetus risk of Down\u2019s syndrome or other chromosomal abnormalities.<\/li>\n
          • We will check the position of the trofoblast and the length of the cervix.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            Nuchal translucency scan is performed between 11th and 13+6 weeks of gestation.<\/strong> It examines the thickness of embryo\u2019s nuchal fold. The result depends, from the nuchal\u2019s transparency measurement , the mother\u2019s age and from the crown-rump length( CRL) of the fetus. Also is detected the appearance of nasal bone, blood flow through the fetal heart, umbilical cord and the uterus.<\/p>\n

            With the first trimester screening we estimate the probability of chromosomal abnormalities. Mainly checked:<\/p>\n

              \n
            • Trisomy 21 ( Down syndrome)<\/li>\n
            • Trisomy 18 ( Edwards syndrome)<\/li>\n
            • Trisomy 13<\/li>\n
            • Turner syndrome (45 XO)<\/li>\n
            • Major fetal cardiac defects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              PAPP-A<\/strong><\/p>\n

              PAPP -A is a maternal blood test, also used to look for fetal abnormalities by the check of the levels of pregnancy-associated plasma protein A and the human chorionic gonadotropin. The nuchal translucency with PAAP-A and the presence or not of the nasal bone increase detection rates ( 90-95%). It is important to detect early in the pregnancy the rates for chromosomal abnormalities, because if screening is positive , chorionic villus sampling or amniocentesis is required.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section i_type=”material” i_icon_material=”vc-material vc-material-info_outline” add_icon=”true” title=”Women over the age of 35<\/strong>” tab_id=”tour-03″]
